Fall Wedding Cakes – Guest Blog from Oak Mill Bakery
FALL in love with your wedding cake!
Weddings have become increasingly more and more popular in the months of September, October and November. An interesting trend that we have noticed is the jump in creativity for fall wedding cakes during this time, whether it is in the flavor, the design or both. Could it be that Brides are more willing to take a risk since it is a less traditional time to get married?
Below is a glimpse of the trends we have been seeing…
During the scorching Summer months, couples tend to opt for lighter, more refreshing flavors, such as: fresh fruit with custard & whip cream, fruit preserves layered with buttercream, white chocolate or fruit-‐flavored mousses. When temperatures drop, comfort food is much more appealing. In other words: bring on the chocolate, the decadence, the calories galore!
Fall favorites include: German Chocolate, Devil’s Chocolate Ganache, Carrot Cake, Red Velvet with Cream Cheese Filling, Peanut Butter Buttercream, Chocolate Fudge + Fruit Preserves.
White wedding cakes are still the classic choice that will never go out of style. However, couples that want to incorporate the Holidays (i.e. Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc.) or the changing seasons – there are plenty of designs to choose from. Think pumpkins, multicolored leaves, dark chocolate frosting and skulls (just kidding, well not really).
Go with the flavor & design that best represents you as a couple. If you’re both chocolate lover’s – go with chocolate! If you met on Halloween, and it is now your absolute favorite holiday – go with a spider web -‐themed cake!
Don’t worry about pleasing everyone else (that is nearly impossible) – plus, it is fun and refreshing for your guests to experience something out of the ordinary.
