Picture Perfect: Kris and Ralph’s Wedding
Weddings are usually a time when one takes photos, not bring them with. But with the joining of families comes the joining of heritage as well, and that is exactly what Kris and Ralph did for their Chicago wedding reception to celebrate becoming Mr. and Mrs.
Kris knew that a subtle nod at the families they came from was a key ingredient to making their day especially how she had pictured it in her mind. Along the windowsills of their reception, held at Chicago’s Room 1520, Kris and Ralph distributed dozens of simple silver frames amongst handfuls of candles. From heart-warming candids to posed baby pictures, the shots added a one of a kind touch of sentiment and heritage.
“We both love old family photos and we’re fortunate to have a great collection of them on both sides of our family”, said the new Mrs. Rebacz.
“Ralph’s family is the first generation from Poland and my family is second generation from Germany, so a lot of those photos are really historical as well as sentimental. It ended up being a big hit”
Some of the family members that made up those earlier generations had already passed, leaving their memories and love with Kris and Ralph. The photos helped to share their celebration with them.
Kris and Ralph decided to also use a projector to loop an old Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire movie in the entrance way. The black and white film surrounded by walls washed in color gave the room a charming ambiance.
“I used to watch those movies with my grandpa as a little girl, and Ralph is a really good dancer so we both have a minor obsession and love for them. We kick back with popcorn to watch them at home once in a while”, said Kris of their choice.
“The projection was an affordable way to add movement and interest in the room, as well as a place to relax or even a conversation starter”.
As the night progressed, the music slipped from traditional (played by Ralph’s Dad!) to contemporary dance music. In the words of the bride, “Nothing like “Sexy and I know it” layered over the visual of Ginger Rogers tap dancing in a feathered dress.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves! Kris and Ralph’s decoration concepts are wonderful examples of how to create special spaces and engage guests through things that are most personal and treasured by them.
Congrats again to the happy couple and thank you for letting us be a part of your special day.
